Am back ....! to give my review about ARR's latest SAKKARAKATTI !!!
So, straight away...............here I go. . .


1. CHINNAMMA CHILAKAMMA

This is a hindi song.. So,even before listening, one could guess how this song will be..! Hmm.. anyone who have heard the hindi Chinnamma will listen to this tamil version with less concentration. Well, thats the mistake..!!!!
Sakkarakatti's CHINNAMMA rocksss !!!
And the full credits goes to BENNY and CHINMAYI.. Amazing, ENERGETIC singing by the lead singers and the female harmonies need a special mention. The beginning by Benny,

Jal Jalakku un konjal....

Ahh.. thts enough..! One will agree that this song has a very different and a special feel though its there already in hindi..!
Benny's beginning... and all those superb brighas in between, the delivery of the words... Extra-Ordinary :)
What a superb find Benny is !!! :)
And Chinmayi.... I dont find proper words to describe her rendition in this particular song. The hindi version has no female lead in this song. Its really great that ARR made this a duet in tamil n also that he gave it to our Chinmayi :)
Agai, just like Benny ... the very first lines of Chinmayi...

Kannale anuppinai ANJAL... MANJAL ....

and also that ...........

Yaar yaaro ...................... and especially ONDRENDRU SOLVAYO :)

And she shows a new dimension while singing,

A-ayyo kasakkum ... A-tharuppai theeye ....................... Shtylishhh !!!!

Awesome dance number this is .. All the interludes and the chorus thing are same as the hindi version so need not explain it much.. When compared with the hindi version I'd definetely vote for the tamil version though both the versions belong to the ONE AND ONLY maestro and the credits go to BENNY and CHINMAYI

2. NAAN EPPOUDHU


Again , YEH RISHTA KYA KEHLATA HAI from MEENAXI. What a wonderful song Yeh Rishta is..! the tamil version is almost the same. Sung by REENA BHARADWAJ. The same kind of modulations and emotions which she gave in hindi is present even in this version. Only difference is that she has tried her level best to KILL tamil !! :P
And to her luck, this song has almost many difficult words.. LOL

And in a place where she is supposed to say ALAIYAI, she sings, HALEYYEI ..... lolz :P
OKAY ...!!! I'll stop complaining about her rendition of tamil words for one should accept and understand the difficulties in singing a language without knowing it.. Besides that, its the same as hindi version..... as good as the original...! Kudos :)


3. MARUDHAANI


The first original song in this film.. Listen to 00:10 to 00:26 first. And then 00:27 to 00:45. According to me, those 45 seconds are more than suffice to prove that this song is just THE BEST ... Any music buff can easily gel with the feel of the song immediately after listening to those beginning bits.. If it isn't enough, then you have the entire 06:27 minute song :) Big thanks to Rahman sir for giving us such a great song :) and a small disappointment too :( to which I'll come later.
We have MADHUSHREE singing this song. I think this is her second female solo for ARR after the one in AE/YUVA.
Many many cheers/ applaudes/ pranams ........... and what not............ for Madhushree who, I think, has really worked hard on her diction. Amazing pronunciation and all those kutti kutti sanghadhis are really really superb.I think she wud have been swaying while recording this song as she normally does while performing on stage. The song has little bit sad feel. But I feel that thats one of the important reasons why this song has become so special!!!

Vaazhum payirkku thannir veendum... Kadhal kadhaikku kanner veendum.........mm :P ...whata thought...!

and very beautifully she sings , "marudhaani vizhiyil yen" ... nice feel in each and every line... Actually, each line needs to be mentioned but hey, I cant write the entire song over here for konjam konjam enakku theriyadhu :D
I listen to this song for about three times a day .... thts minimum.. :P My (most) favourite line in this song is the third one in the charanam....

Aathiram nethiram kooda- aa- a paalayum kallaai aval paarkiral... ... And the corresponding line in charam 1 is also so cool..!

And ya, the DISAPPOINTMENT..! yaa, thats nothing but '02:48-02:59' and '04:29'. Hey, I am not to be misunderstood over here. Rahman sir's humming is not the disappointment. The thing is that why can't Sir sing few more lines :( He could have sung few more na... When we listen to this song for the first time, we wud really expect him to sing few more lines other than that humming. But alas, thats the disappointment. :(
Well, the interlude 1 and the interlude 2 will transfix you. That too, the keyboard+flute bit in the first interlude reminds me of the "western" part in Lagaan's Oh Re Chhori. It doesn't resemble the latter but the feel is the same.
On the whole, this is an awesome song. Can give ***** rating .. !


4. I MISS YOU DA


"......emminey emminey emminey....... 'm missing you...." Who is this INDAI HAZA ?? Oh... another new find by ARR ? NO !!! Its CHINMAYI's alter ego. :-o
MANN....! Is Chinmayi a split personality or something ? May be she is !!! :) I am not able to measure the extent to which she can modulate..! This astonishing singer has another song in the same film in which she has sung as Chinmayi.. I MISS YOU DA is a very stylish song, she has sung the entire song in a low, husky, seductive, sexy voice :P Am not exagerrating it at all. And that "eeisshtam neeyada..." things is too too good. And in charanam2 , I think each line is sung partly by Chinmayi and partly by Indai Haza..... actually by Chinmayi herself...! What a modulation. am really short of words to describe her talent. She deserves an award for this but I think hardly people will appreciate this song.. But who cares..?
I love this song and more than that I love chinmayi in this song. Well, what more...........?? superrr song..


5. ELAY


This song is sung by NARESH and KRISH.Haven't heard this song much. So, can't review much. But as far as I have heard it, the most enchanting thing is the part played by the violin in the interludes!! Good singing! First time I though that this song has the typical Roobaroo feel. But NO... Roobaroo is just to ahead of all these...

6. TAXI TAXI

(...................... will be reviewed later...............)

Am too much glued with the first four songs and cos of that I didnt even try to listen Elay and Taxi at all.. May be, when I m bored with those four, I'll go for the remaining two. But hey, will I EVER be bored ?? :P

Well, thats it! Sakkarakatti is really too good.

It feels great when all your exams are over and you are almost free now !!! Lots of leisure time. Was thinking about updating my blog long back but the right topic didnt click at all.Actually this time I thought of writing a non-music topic..! Hmm, that failed though cuz again I am upto something related to music only.. Again, listing some of my favourite songs(of some different genre,OBV) with my own set of explanations.. :)
But the difference in this topic is that these are set of Non-Rahmanatic songs.. Very nice melodies..All beautiful numbers.. Vidyasagar's Creations..!
Well, I am very selective in this list.. Its my top-ten !!! And these songs are numbered..ranked.. according to my priority :D
Here I go.........................................READ ON !

1.Malare Mounama (KARNA)

Vidyasagar may compose many songs...Many thousands of songs may come..But believe me...,this song will anyways top my list..He cannot compose another Malare,I reckon !!!Whata song..! SPB n S.JANAKI..
This song..Well, I dislike the female-lead's singing in this particular song !But SPB sir is more than suffice to make this song extremely adorable..

malare, mounama ? mouname vedhama ...

Just four words, and SPB sir modulates each and every time he sings these verses.NO ONE COULD HAVE RENDERED IT SO WELL. The 'pallavi' and two 'charanams' everything is the best. And the music... the beginning with the flute.. What more u can ask for...? And in the charanam, the vocals is always supported by some instrument or the other..

These are all SPB sir's area .. And none but him could have given it so well .. Great song..!

2.Orey Manam (VILLAN)

Again, this is another best song of Vidyasagar..HARIHARAN n CHANDANA BALA .. I like this song big time..n even now..! very very mellifluous. And both the lead singers have given their best. The 'pallavi' and 'charanam' are bit smooth and the interludes will be bit faster. This kinda crescendo suits this song well..The composition reminds me of Malargale though [How can I be w/o mentioning Rahman Sir :)]. The tune is too good.

and this line will have a flute back up..That'll just add to the beauty of the song. How well Hariji pronounces "idhe KKSHANAMM" .. thats typical Hariji.. But he gets to sing that part only once in the song... orey kshanam !! :)

3.Anbae Anbae Nee En (UYIRODU UYIRAGA)

Again, a very melodious song from Vidyasagar. HARIHARAN and CHITRA ..And there the maker has two great people singing his melody, then obviously this song has to be one of the best. And it is ! Interlude1(flute) and Interlude2(where Hariji's and Chitraji's voices overlap) are the best parts of this song..Everytime they sing,

bhoomiyil naam vaazhum kaalam dhoorum,unmaiyil enjeevan unnai thedum

Its so good.. their voices, the music, the tune.. everything gets glued like anything..

kanne unkaivalai meetum sanngeethangal.... What a rendition...!

And Chitraji's charanam 2 stands out... These melodies are special aspects of Vidyasagar's music..!

4.Azhaguril Poothavale (THIRUMALAI)

SPB n SUJATHA .. A very simple song.. I guess.. Yet, these two singers make it stupendous. The beginning flute and the interlude1 flute...TOO GOOD.Hey, who is Vidyasagar's flautist ? :P
Sujatha's beginning will be awesome...

hmmm...mm.. nee uduthipota udai........... That beginning along with that hum :) AWESOME

And that,

kurilaga naan irukka nedilaga nee valarkka chennai thamizh sangathamizh aanadadi
ariyamal naan irukka azhagaga nee thirakka kadhal mazhai aayul varai thoorumada...

Simple yet much adorable lyrics... And the end pallavi...
hmmm..mmm ennai adiodu saaithavale...
Thats the best way to sing the end pallavi for this song..

5.Kanden Kanden (MADHUREY)

Again, the beginning with the flute.. And thats enough..One can guess that its gonna be one great song. SADHANA SARGAM n MADHU BALAKRISHNAN. What an amazing singer Madhubalakrishnan is !!! Sadhanaji's hum in the interlude 1 is adorable. The charanam's tune and all of Madhu's part stands out. And after CH1, they wont sing "kanden kanden" , they just hum..! Aaaha.... hmmmm... SUPERB !!!
And that "thee meeta.....thaaal poota.......por meeta" parts are just so good. Fantastic song !

6.Sollitharava (MAJAA)

Same pair here. MADHUBALAKRISHNAN n SADHANA SARGAM .. The "lalala ...lalala.." of interlude1 and the interlude2 music are the bestest parts...! And all their sangadhis in the charanam..

Both of them are just too good. Very subtle, very precise... and very very nice :)

7.Panikatre (RUN)

Again, a FLUTE beginning followed by the female lead's humming. SADHANA SARGAM n BALRAM.. This is an un-released song of the movie.How can a person neglect such an awesome song in a movie ? Thatz bad !
The charanam and the tune is just too good.

naan thedum hmmmm mugamaanai...

words followed by hums ! Thats suffice ! U just dont need more. The backup during the pallavi after charanam1 resembles the one in malare mounama.. Superb song.. And ya, lyrics.. again , simple yet adorable..!

8.Sudum Nilavu (THAMBI)

The one of the best ever duet pair has sung this song. UNNIKRISHNAN n HARINI.. Two things are enough to say that this song is the best. Listen to this song for the first 15 seconds..! If that isn't enough, then listen to the interlude1. What an amazing song it is ! The interlude 1..What a raaga.. Both Harini and UnniKrishnan are superb in this song..!Well, u dont need more to say that this song is the best !

9.Kalaiarumbi (KANA KANDEN)

First 13 seconds of this song...A SHLOKAM like beginning.. SRINIVAS , who has enjoyed each and every bit of this song and sang it..!And KALYANI's effort deserves an applause :)
That ,
vaimattum pesadhu, udambellam pesum... Everytime they sing these lines.... amazing...

One will not require more reasons to like this song..! By the way, hey, Is love a disease ?? Thats what this song says !!! :P

10.Poovasam Purappadum (ANBAE SHIVAM)

SRIRAM PARTHASARATHY n SADHANA SARGAM .. Again, a great great song from Vidyasagar..! Here, the parts..where the charanam ends and the pallavi begins.. the sangadhis in that particular part.... Whoaaaa !!!!!
Both the male and female parts are equally good.. I cant not mention about Sadhanaji's tamil.
Its too good in this song...! :)


Well, thats it..My top-ten is done !!But actually, it wont be fair if I stop here and not mention about many of Vidyasagar's other awesome creations..!I just cant restrict myself to just 10 songs.. So I'll go for.....sayyyy..........another 10 ? :P

The twentieth song here needs an explanation.. This is an all time best song but unfortunately didnt get anything that it deserved..Not many people know that this song exists.. :( And thatss...

20.Engae Engae En Vennilavu (CHADURANGAM)

This movie didnt release at all.. The songs went unnoticed. This song deserves special attention !So unfortunate..!! Sung by ........KARTHIK !!! :) Well, not just because this song is sung by Karthi that its special..This is one of the best solo songs in Vidyasagar's music. A very very melodious song it is.. And Karthi has made this song as the best ..! His singing, his diction, his feel and what not....!!! I would give full marks for each and every part of this song and charanam 2 deserved more than full ! These lines........

'Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa' and 'Ada'

A.R.Rahman's two releases... in the same day !!!And damn my exams.. which kept me away from them.. :(
I could neither listen to it "many" times, nor analyze nor write a review :P LOL
Yet, I managed to take a break from my jam-packed schedule ...listen to ARR's and then pen down few lines about it..
Well, JAANE TU YAA JAANE NAA and ADA

Let me first say about JTYJN.
8 songs..
I saw the track list..Normally when an ARR flick releases,I see the track list and then go for the songs. I,will obviously,listen to all the songs. But when I was going through the track list,I thought of listening to the one which was sung by the Maestro.

TU BOLE MAIN... sung by ARR himself, this song is very much like one from the movie Rangeela, again, even that was sung by ARR. Also, I felt , this one very much resembled Jillunu Oru Kadhal's title track.
Its a cool song, altogether a different feel..not a typical song for ARR. But the way he sings..
"jaane tu, jaane tu ya jaane naaa..
maane tu, maane tu ya maane naa.." Amazing !!! :)
In the lines of terebina, khwaja and newyork nagaram, Tu Bole is totally different.

My pick in the whole album is KAHIN TOH HOGI..sung by Rashid Ali and Vasundhra dass. A very melodious one and very well sung.Rashid's voice here resembles Kay Kay's !
I like the "jaane na kahan woh duniya hai.." that part and also Vasundhra's part is too good.. Just love those four lines sung by her. This song is my personal favourite. Asusual, the highlight is when the pitch changes towards the end :)

Next is KABHI KABHI ADITI.. again..Seems ARR was impressed by his own Mustafa Mustafa while composing this song..The starting of this song is like Mustafa's interlude 2. Rashid Ali has sung this exceptionally well. Here his voice resembles Adnan Sami's !!! I wud put it as.. Rashid Ali = Kay Kay + Adnan Sami..
Subtle lyrics... The guitar bit (prelude) and the flute bit which comes after stanza 1 (interlude 2) are all superb..
"gaana toh aata nahi magar phir bhi hum gaate hain "... :)

PAPPU CANT DANCE... dance number. Sounds like one of the songs from the movie BOYS (I'll anytym prefer BOYS' music).. The remix version is just OK.. not a big difference..

NAZREIN MILANA.. is again an average song..!Many people singing.. Of all, only Dharshana's and Benny's (yeah, that 'maduraikki pogadhadee' pair!!!) is clearly audible.

The other songs "JAANE TU MERA KYA HAI" , "JAANE TU MERI KYA HAI" are all just mediocre. These songs are definetely good..No doubt.. But in ARR's scale and ARR's range, I wud rate them as mediocre only.

On the whole JTYJN is an average album for an die-hard fan of AR Rahman. When compared with ARR's past hindi releases like Rang De Basanti, Guru and Jodhaa Akbar... Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa is just okay !!! :(

Next release is ADA.. Still more.. 10 songs in an album... :)

There are two songs in the album which are the BEST. One is MEHERBAAN sung by ARR.. :) Dulcet, subtle and what not ?? It has got that 'Vellai Pookal' and the 'Pray For Me Brother' feel... Very limited use of instruments, simple lyrics and ARR's voice make this song extremely adorable.
There is an instrumental version of this song.. Guitar ! And thats equally good.

Next song is HAWA SUN HAWA.. Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam. A very mellifluous one.. The music is just too good in this song.. esp the flute ! :) A very nice song in this album... I wud rate it as one of the Best..

Next comes GULFISHA .. Sunidhi Chauhan and Sonu Nigam.. stylish song.. The beats in this song are good. The prelude... What language is that ? Well, some people say that it is French ! Whatever be it, it is so attractive ! :)

The female version of ISHQ ADA is good. Then there is one song which is sung by Chitra, Sukhwinder and Naresh (where does he sing in that song ?).. This song... well, I'll say that it wud have been great if it is in tamil.. For hindi, it doesnt suit that much !

MILO WAHAN WAHAN.. Jeyachandran and Alka.. is again OKAY !
Hai Dard, Ishq Ada (male), Gumsum and all are just mediocre! Here, I can give the same reason that I gave for JTYJN.. In Rahman's scale, these songs are just average !

It was truly like a dream with two of ARR's getting released on the same day. When you have 18 songs from ARR, you wud definetely expect more..Same was there with me too..!
Any die-hard Rahmaniac, who have enjoyed ARR's music throughout,will definetely say that JTYJN and ADA is a big let-down! Categorizing only 5 songs out of 18 as good..from a whole lot of 18 songs of ARR, is just not enough.. :(

If I have to pick one of the two albums then I'll definitely vote for JAANE TU YAA JAANE NAA..

I am wondering when will ARR recreate his magic.. like a "Thiruda Thiruda", a "May Madham", a "Pudhiya Mugam", a "Kadhal desam", a "Jeans" and many more..! Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa and Ada doesn't even come near to all those memorable hits of ARR..!!! Lets wait for another dawn.. as a song from JTYJN says...
"lekin raat ke baadh hi toh savera hota hai.."

My fav SOLO songsss !

Hmm...Its really hard for me to change my track,take a complete U turn and come out of those sad days...! Hardd it is !!!! Well I should..for I need some kind of variety.. Now this is my own list of 'solo' songs.....from ARR's (of course yaar..) And hey,here the descriptions shall not be too big :D I am trying to keep it short...(just trying..)Lets see... ! Also,this includes hindi songs too... Well, let me begin... from the present to the past..Here I go....from my latest favourites....


1. Jashn-e-Baharaa (JODHAA AKBAR)

An amazing song from ARR's recent flick. This grew in me so much that for few days,I could do nothing but sing it...listen to it...!thats it..! An open secret...My yahoo account's password was once jashnebahara..LOL
Javed Ali,starts off in a soothe tone....

"kehne ko jashn-e-bahara hai............"

a very simple yet appealing lyrics... The main thing about this song is that,it has a tinge of sadness

".......milke bhi hummmm milte nahin..........khilke bhi ghulllll khilte nahi... aankhon mein hai bahare dil meinnnnnnn khizzhhhhaa...... saare..... khoyi si baatein..."

and Javed's voice plays well... Little did I knew that Javed's first song wasn't Jashn-e-Bahara :) This guy has sung in JWM also..which I came to know after analysis..! A big thanks to ARR for bringing this talent to lime-light.

P.S: Very recently I saw the foto of this guy...hmmm.. damn cute... !! But hey I cant do anything... for I am very much committed to Karthi[k] :)


2. Khwaja mere (JODHAA AKBAR)

What an amazing song it is..! "A song very close to the maker himself". Well, one word could describe this song.... And thats...
-D-I-V-I-N-E-
Right from the start.......Feels like u'll be completely sanctified by it..!

"......khwaja jiiiiii khwaja.......... ya garib nawazz.......... "

especially.............. "....beqasu ki takkkkdeerr.........."
that TAKDEER thing is too gud......
ARR's hindi pronunciation stands out here... I just love this... This song.... mere comp mein... REPEAT-la oodum.. :) and still continues to go..!
Very much consecrate. This song has the capacity to move the rock...!


3. Barso Re (GURU)

A ManiRatnam-AR Rahman film ! All the songs are sensational. This song is by my favourrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiittttttttttteeeeee SHREYA GHOSHAL... Her only solo with ARR till date .. (expecting more..!!!) This has all the elements to be the year's best song.. and it was...! Shreya excels completely in this song....

meeethhhhha hai kkhosaa hai....baarissshhhh ka bhosaa hai...... " and especially that...........

" ........jal jal jal jal jal jal jal jal dal jal.............man behka chal....naanare........"
and those.........

".............paaani ka jharnaaa-a- ...........pooochennge varnaa-a-.......... " "............ re teir ke chali................... re megha..........."
These improvisations are just too gud...! Exceptional singing.... ! and such kind of singing can be witnessed only in a extra-exceptional music..!

4. Shauk Hain (GURU)

I love this song..After the tune and the music, the next credits goes to the lyrics... The lyrics are so wonderful. All the simple things explained so beautifully.The lines which really grew over me are..

"........kaaash yeh zindagi bin kahein bin sunein so gayi hoti.... subha ki roshni ....bezuba.....................roshni kaaaa shauk hai........."
Sowmya Raoh has done a great job here..I just cant understand as in how can ManiRatnam scrap such an awesome song from the movie and keep it just as a bgm.! :|


5. Roobaroo (RANG DE BASANTI)

".............Aey saala............."
Mannnn!!! This guy....Naresh Iyer,won so many hearts through this very song..!Amazing number... This tune kindles some kind of awakening in u.And I should say that mere words wont give that feeling.. Naresh's singing counts a lot for the real feel of this song... The freshness in his voice and the ever increasing energy counts to the success of this song..
my favourite part..

"......dhua jhata khula gagan mera.........AAAAndhiyon se jaghadd rahiiiii hai.. lauu meri... "

In this, the "rahhhhiii hai lauu meriii... " WAAHH.... Naresh deserves a pat for that..Kudos... And I shud never forget to say about ARR's...........

".........Rubaruuuuuuuuuuuu-uuu--- Roshhhhhhhhnnniiiiiii.... heyyyyyyyyyy"
Oh man....! I cud feel that thing now.... :)


6. Newyork Nagaram (JILLUNU ORU KADHAL)

Well, I am here to describe the song which affected me a lot... which is extremely close to my heart... The first TAMIL song in this list of mine....

"newyork nagaram urangum neram thanimai adarndadhu,paniyum padarndadhu... kappal irangiyeeeee-e- kaatrum karaiyill adarndadhu..."
And the lines.. which are more or less like my signature lines...

"naangu kannadi suvargalukkulle naanum mezhugu vathiyum.... thanimai thanimaiyo...........o...ooooo... kodumai kodumaiyo"
These lines... sung by AR RAHMAN...Well, that name explains everything...I love this song like anything.. when u listen to this song na, the first feel is... oru flight land aagara madhiri irukkum.. And the thanimai in this song.. The music, the lyric, the singing, ARR's voice...everything is as best as ever..And none other than ARR could have rendered this song so well... The entire song is like my soul.... but the special lines.... just for ARR's singing.......

Again, a song sung by the Master himself.I like the tamil version equally.But I prefer explaining the hindi version since it is the original.This song,again,is a sad one.This song directly interacts with a person's soul, with his inner feelings.And the love for motherland is evident in each and every line,every bit of the music, and in ARR's voice[of course].Rahman Sir is a very patriotic person and only such a person can give u such a song..

"..yeh pal hai wahi..jisssmein hai chupi,puri ek sadhi....saari zindagiiii...."
n that "saari zindagi" will see some tears in ur eyes... The very part which every time makes u feel something for ur country is.... well, I wud like to say both the versions over here.. Both are equally touching...

"..mitthi ki hai jo khushbu..woh kaise bhulayega...... nayi nayi raaaahon mein...khoye khoye dil se tere koi yeh kahegaa...yeh jo des hai tera..." "..vaanam engum parandalum,paravai ennam than kootil,ulagam engum.... .....sandarpangal vaaidalum.....ulmanathin kooval undan seviyil vizhada.....unthan desathin kural..."

Heart-Touching song and I swear... ARR can only do it !


8. Sanda Kozhi/Kabhi Neem Neem (Aayitha Ezhuthu/Yuva)

Now this is Madhushree.I dont have that much liking towards her singing, but I think, ARR has!!!! He uses her voice in almost all of his movies. Sanda Kozhi is a folk-type solo..A very enjoyable song,though I did like only one part of this song when it got released :P
Okay lemme explain that part..I would directly forward it to 02:22 and hear it till 03:15.. And thats Rahman Sir awesome bgm score..there is some kind of magic in his voice that just attracts u like anything... And U cant really stop urself from dancing....:) [that typical madhavan/abhishek's dance]
Well, later I started liking this number.. Madhushree's tamil is extremely funny in this.. That... "...kaiyya muyya..." lol!!!! ...........
"........sorgapuram pogooonum nalla vazhi kaaaaami..."
"........vaddi kada polae.........." mannn!! this is very hilarious !!! :) :) :)
For all these reasons, I prefer singing the hindi version of this song since that is not funny!!! Gud song !!!


9. Azhagiya Cindrella (KANGALAL KAIDUSEI)

A very nice song..Hariharan does the magic over here...
"....enai enakkeee armugam seeeeiiidhaiiIIII...." Its Hariji stamp throughout...

"...ennai ennnakkkedhaan nee arimugam seidhai.. unnai enakkkullleeee-ee- vidaikkavum seidhaiiiii......."

And the way he sings.... "avassssthhhhaiiiii". I guess, truly there was some kind of avasthai for Hariji... The FEEL !!! the way he says, "sWWargathilaee.." :)
Also..... "....A-aa-gaaaayam AAaaasirrrvadhikkkkk-a-" it takes an abrupt hault....
n then............ "............eeeyeedhooo nadakkka-a-" HAULT again....
and resuming again with.... " azagiya cindrella........"
And the female harmony here and there... n then throught... ROCKS !!!
And the back up music over here is too gud... !! All time best song !!


10. Enakkoru Girlfriend (BOYS)

Oh God Bless me..!!! Well, Here I am..! explaining a KARTHI's song for the first time in my blog... This song was the prime reason for me falling for this guy's voice... (hey,voice mattum dhana enna ? :P) KARTHI ROCKKKKSSS HERE !!!
And hey, did he sing for me ?? Enakkoru girlfriend ................ hahaha....
Well, its not "venum" ... Cmon, its Karthi.................

The STHHYYLLIISSHHH tamil :) "fenumada" Thats Karthi.. I was totally mad when this song was released...

Whattaa singing man !!! The devotion and the dedication !! Once, this song was like suprabatham in my home..Forget me,my mom used to insist that her day should start with this song!! Waahhhh !!!He will be at the peak of his energy @

hey,note the difference in his modulation over here.... Note the stress in his pronunciation when he sings ....
"...thool aaga VENDUM......." ......... and the previous song,note his ease in singing....... "...ennokoru girlfriend fvvveenumada..."
Its the same word in both the songs... VENDUM and VENUM.... Karthi's diction and his talent stands out here.. Amazing song... !!!

12. Oru Deivam Thanda (KANNATHIL MUTHAMITTAL)

This is my favourite movie. Chinmayi's first song.!But u cant say that from her singing..Very professional!!! Actually a tough song to sing, I guess.. ! Well, a singer cannot get a better start to his/her career and Chinmayi has got the best here by ARR and she has used it very well.The lyrics here will make u cry..!

"...chella mazhaiyum nee,chinna idiyum nee.... maranam neenda jananam nee.................... .....inaitha kavidai neee-ee-- ezhuthu pizhaiyum nee.... naan thooki valartha thuyaram nee.... "

I remember those days,my school days,where I had written these lyrics on a piece of paper and gave it to few of frnds who wanted to sing this song but they didnt knew the lyric completely... :) a song very close to my heart...AGAIN !
A very touching one,rendered very well in both the versions by Chimayi as well as Jeyachandran ! Everytime they sing, " ...neeee-e-e-eee" its just too good !!!

13. Vellai Pookal (KANNATHIL MUTHAMITTAL)

This is from the same movie. Any person will be moved to tears!! Mild orchestration, just a guitar n few other instruments.... And very importantly FLUTE.. (courtesy-NAVEEN)
AR RAHMAN again..! No one could sing this song so well!

14. Thaniye (RHYTHM)

This is an amazing movie with all mellifluous songs..This is sung by Shankar Mahadevan,who not only sings this song,but also dances..SURPRISE...!!!
"....puriyadhaaaa-a-a-a- peranmbe..."
and the sudden..........."thaNIYE" just lights up ur spirits.Shankarji has sung it exceptionally well.This song is actually very nicely choreographed too :)
I liked the second charam very much...

"..kannamoochi yenada en kanna.... " A very very beautiful song sung by Chitra !!!
A very melodious and a well organised orchestration here, a very soothing raaga (enna raagam idhu ?:( ) and Chitraji's voice does the remaining magic !
The various "kaannnaaa-a-aa" by chitraji and esp. the "vaaaAAAaa en kannaaa" are too guud and lovely..!
"...unkanavugalilllll naan illaya.... "
" idhazh kondu vaai mooda vaaa en kannaaa...... enuyril nee vandu saeerga........"
Luv these parts.... !! I neednt explain more about this song... Self-Explanatory.. !

16. Pachai Nirame (ALAIPAYUTHEY)

Hariharan's magic throughout! Amazing work by Naveen.. great great music... Clinton's " sakhhiiyee.. snehithiye....." well, I always hear ARR's voice also over here! Hariji has konjified in each and every words in this song, like...........
"bhoooomiii thodaaaaAAAAAAda pillaiyin paadhammm...."
"manjal manjall MANJALLLL " three different MANJALs over here !
Then comes the bestest part!!
"..alai illada vaari vannam............. oooOOOODDDAaaa poovin .........." whoooaaaaa...
Also that...........
"...iravin nirame iravin nirame........ oooOOOOOoo kaargalathin.... ellammmmm saerndhu koondhal nirame............"
And the last part.......... " unadu manasin nirameeee-e-e-e "

17. Chotta Chotta (TAJMAHAL)

Two versions... Srinivas-Sujatha and both the versions are equally good. The music is exceedingly well [do i need to say that ?]. The charanam is too gud in both versions..

and "........mazhaiyil aadum mayilaee-ee " Srinivas..
And esp. that "neerukkum namakkum..." , "Attchhadaiiii" by Srinivas makes my eyebrows to raise and then fall :)
I guess, Srinivas' is in a little bit higher shruthi than Sujatha's!!! (well, pl forgive me if I am wrong...am nt sure though.! excellent rendition by both!!!


18. Varaga Nadikkarai (SANGAMAM)

This is Shankar Mahadevan !!! A runway hit!! Deserves to be one...
"..aaahhhh kannil varum kaattchi ellam....urrruuuthhhhumm "
Again,a folk type.! A pacy song. All that "OoOoooOh" will be very nice :)
Shankarji's high pitches are just too good. This is one of ARR's bhajan type songs..And I like this song just coz of Shankarji's singing...(apart from ARR) .

19. Khamosh Raat (THAKSHAK)

First Credits to the guy who played guitar in this song... RoopKumar Rathod!!
Dont know much about his singing,but this song is an awesome song. ARR's another "raat" song.. Raat so sunne ka..! It will grow on you!!
All those " madhhhdham" s in this song.... also that............... "ek c-h-e-h-e-r-a" nice one ! I love this part....
"jeene ka tha humme dum,par nahi tha koi humdum.... "
And this song will be still more beautiful towards the end !


20. Nahi Samne (TAAL)

Hariharan's another great song.. " dekho chodke... kisss raste...."
no other person except Hariji could give u such a song........
"...priyasiiii"............. and then continues to sing.........takes his breath till there...
"mere passssssssssssss hai tuu-uuuu... "
A very very melodious song of ARR. ARR knows very well as in what kind of song should be given to Hariji so that it makes people to go ga-ga over his songs :)
Again,a tinge of sadness throughout makes this song more beautiful ..!


21. Dilse Re (DILSE)

I say that I am listing my fav solo songs and that list is devoid of DilseRe ???? ho hi nahi sakta.. This should be any musiclover's favourite !!As I always say, ManiRatnam knows to get the best out of ARR n this song one of the bestest !
Amazing song... The change in the pace....from the racy "ek suraj niklata" to the "dilse ree dilse re" .... makes u feel the real feel of ARR's music..
Well, I needn't say more about this masterpiece...!!!

Hey, its getting too tough... :( I wanna say more about many more songs and as usual, my list is never-ending!!LOL ! In similar lines, I could say loads about

SAD DAYS ....... WITH SAD SONGS..........!

The truth of missing yet another ARR concert kills me like anything..That apparently pushed me to listen to only sad songs.. ! :(

And hey that gave me an idea.. as in why dont I list out all my favourite sad songs of ARR.. Writing about those songs which play these days in my music player..I think I am gonna stick to these songs only till Apr 20 !

Choosing my favourites from ARR's is really a tough job for me..But since I am going to mention only about sad songs (boundary is small, u c .. :P), this becomes little bit simpler !

Well,these songs are numbered only for the sake of numbering..If I am to rate them then I wud definitely give all them the first rating... So mellifluous..so touching.....n filled with tears....

Here I go ..........!


1. Minnalae (MAY MADHAM)

I can review this song in many ways... like.... 'the music' , ' the feel' , 'the excellent bg score' , 'the harmonies' , 'SPB sir's singing' and the 'mere touch of ARR'. In whatever way you listen to this, this song spellbounds you..!
To begin with......well, "beginning" of the song is so grandeur. And SPB sir is too good in this song, makes you feel that u cannot find a better person to sing this wonderful creation of ARR. The feel in SPB sir's voice,especially,

in the second stanza....

"paalmazhaikku kaathirukkum bhoomi illaya oru..........." and it reaches its peak when he sings..
"naan kaathirundal kaadhal innum NEELUMILLAYA.......... "

The female harmonies and the violin back up needs a special mention over here.. ! Amazing song...!


2. En Kadhalae (DUET)

Another ARR-SPB combo..! The first thing that comes to mind when I think of this song is the bg score after stanza 1, that saxafone bit, the point where it takes a turn and touches "Anjali Anjali.." and then soon cumes back to En Kadhalae again..........
Also, all the high-pitch notes over here..........

"Idhu maatrama ..... thadumaatrama...... "
"en nenjilae.......e ...... ee ....... panimootama... "

Also, the most touching is.....

"uyir vaazhvadha .. illai povadha.... "

And I bet, SPB sir did shed some tears while singing......

"............illai AMUDHHA VISHHAM enbadha........... "
and also............
" naan kulungi kulungi AZHUDHEAN "

Awesome sad feel ............... n little bit of anger too.....



3. Kadhal Rojavae (ROJA)

Again ARR-SPB... ! Hey, this is the first one.. ! Wut a song...! Before I say about SPB sir, Sujathaji's humming is so beautiful in this song...
So fresh this song is...even today...! ARR actually gave a new definition to music... And I would like to mention one more thing at this point.
It was ARR who proved that SPB sir can be used in songs like
'Thanga Thamarai'(Minsara Kanavu) and "Ennai Kanavillaiye'(Kadhal Desam).
Coming back to Kadhal Rojavae..........

"vaai illamal ponal vaarthai illai penne... neeillamal ponal vaazhkai illai kanne".......

Lyrics are so touching.. also the feel in SPB sir's voice......... " SOL...L SOL "
U cannot get a better sad song than this... :)


4. Punnagaiyil Theemooti (JEANS)

'Jeans' has a great music.. All the songs are so special.. Well, this is Hariharan...! Hariji's another song in this movie.. "anbae anbae" also seems to be a sad song....but not completely though(..my opinion..)
This is kinda bit song... just 2:31 minutes !!!!
This is again an anger-cum-sad feel.. ! The music in this song is so lovely...! The music @ one side and Hariji's voice

... Wut else u can ask for..... I love the rendition of Hariji in.....

"anbe... mei enbade poi aaginal...... ayyooooooooo.. poi enbadhe ennagumo..... " and ends with .......
"poi kaadhalllllll uyir vaaazhumoooo" and then comes that music.... a racy one..................
Great composition.. !!


5. NilaKaigiradhu (INDRA)

The song which is very close to my heart.. If at all I am sad,I would like to listen to this song first.........

"kaatru vesum veyyil kaayum kaayum adhil maatram yedhum illaye... "
The beginning...Hariji's aalap says everything.... So much of sadness...I love each and every part of this song...

"....vaazhtu ooaya villai .. endrendrum vaaaaanil.. "

And the music blends with Hariji's voice very well... The Charanam needs a special mention........

"........kuyilin soaghamm..." "... poovvaanam... " ........."sarugutheyyyyyy "
Hariharan @ his best..................! And he is @ his bestest when he sings.....

"inda vaazhkaiye seedhanam..............adhil jeeevanaeeee pooooaavvadheeenn "

What a great thought.... I always ask this question to me when I am sad.. !! :)
Only ARR knows to give such a song which slowly creeps into your heart and stays there forever... !!!



6. Vidukadhaiya indha (MUTHU)


This is the best song of this album. "Oruvan Oruvan" is also great song [the best ever intro song of Rajinikanth] but pick in "Muthu" will definetely be this one..
Another great song coming under "ARR-Hariharan" hit-list...

The sudden-starting..... Powerful lyrics and the modulation rendered by Hariji makes it so special.......

" vidukadhaiya indha vaazhkai....
vidai tharuvaar yaarrro.......... "

n this particular part....... "naan seidha theengu ennnnna..." is too good !

I am not so sure about the lyrics of this song.So I better dont write them. I cannot really list out the reasons as in why I like this song.. But, I guess, there is no harm in liking a song without any reason,is there any ?? :P



7. Oh Vennila (KADHAL DESAM)

I love this song like anything..... Unni Krishnan...... I dont know from where he has got that sweetness in his voice...

He has some in-built sadness (I guess) which comes out when necessary.. Slow paced number.. sounds best when heard @night....in a very low volume............
The lyrics are so gudd.. ! Well, here I dont even mind writing the entire song...each and every word is pronounced...said .......... and sung so beautifully by UnniKrishnan....
Special lines...

"...............tharugindra porulai KAAadhalllll illai...... thandale kadhal kadhal illai...... "

This entire charanam is so simple yet strong... n Unni's rendition of .... " Oh nenjae nenjae nee en seivaai... "
Should ask Rahman sir as in how he is able to come up with such songs... !!! If I meet him, n if i ask him..... I am sure ..his answer will be............ "SMILE:)" and he'll never forget to give all the credits to almighty..!


8. Thendrale (KADHAL DESAM)

Same movie... 2 sad songs in one movie and both are so special... In the movie, the hero(s) sings this song when the heroine is unable to sleep...... so is the lyrics...

"....kavalai marandu thoongu..............iniya kanavil thoongu........"

UnniKrishnan and Mano.. ! I prefer Unni's part to Mano's..! Though I love the lines , the feel in the same.....

".....sonnavaarthai kodi dhaan unnai neril kandal mounam yen... "
.by Mano... Also also that.. "thookam indri vaadddiiiinen.. "

Needless to mention about Unni's part............ The special place over here is ..............

"........enakku mattum, SUDUM NILA... "

in that, the former part he sings in a low voice and the latter is in a high voice..I mean, in a high pitch....[technical stuffs aren't my cuppa] :) :) :)
Also, If u concentrate on the music,its Keyboard which is dominating during Unni's part and Guitar dominates Mano's ........... !!!
This song is wonderfully wonderful..!!! :)


9. Evano Oruvan (ALAIPAYUTHEY)

One of the best(est) albums of ARR.. Evano oruvan is a fine composion..... When I write about my favourite sad songs, I realize the role played by the lyrics in any song.. Particularly in a sad song wherein the pace will preferably be bit slow. This song has got finest of lyrics... Rendered very well by Swarnalatha... Its a ManiRatnam movie and needless to say that he takes the best out of Rahman.. ! One set of lyric suits me all the time...

" innisai mattum illai endral naan endro endro irandiruppen....... "

Well,it may suit for maximum music freaks .... I prefer it like this.............

TO ARR.........
" UN-ISAI mattum illai endral naan endro endro irandiruppen....... "

for it gave/gives/ will give new life to me !!!



10. Engae enadhu kavidhai (KANDUKONDEN KANDUKONDEN)

"Kandukonden Kandukonden" is yet another wonderful art mastered by ARR. Srinivas and Chitra !!!!!
the starting...........

"pirai vandavudan nila vandavudan................... "

Srinivas sings only couple of lines, couple of times........ rest is all Chitraji ... !
She is a living legend... !
If I wanna mention someone as GOD/GODDESS of playback singing.... The Goddess throne definetely belongs to K.S.Chitra .. !!
P.S. God is...........none other than SPB sir and Hariji :P
I find many differences between the first charanam and the second.. The tune is same... yet........
Chitraji's rendition ......... the second charam.............
After that Nadaswaram bit is just too gud... so touching............

"orey paarvai ada orey vaarthai........... ........ vendutheyyy............. "

and Srinivas' humming in between the first two lines.......and after the second line........ and Chitraji continuing with.........

This song never fails to bring tears in your eyes...............!


11. Anbae/Azhage Sugama (PAARTHALAE PARAVASAM)

Srinivas-Sadhana Sargam....
I,somehow, give much more attention to Sadhanaji's part in this song.. Dunno why.........
Her..............
"......veedu vaasal sugama un veetu thotam sugama -a - ................ un poigalellammmm sugama.......a .....a ..........AnBaEEE sugama.................. "

And that Violin bit adorns this song so well ...........

Sadhanaji's .............. " theriyadha.........." and Srinivas' ............. " puriyaadhaaa........." will almost take you to eternal bliss kinda thing....
Also in the end............

"..........idhu kanner nadathum pechuvaarthai....udainda manangal Otttaadhaaaa.........."

So much feel in both their voices.... TOO GOOD .............!!!!
And the ending is again too good ... !!


12. Nenjae Nenjae (RATCHAGAN)

K.J.Yesudas and Sadhana Sargam...
Very nice song...! .
............. ".......... kangalai vitruthaan Oooviyama .... "
I like this line very much... ! Both the charanams........... CH 1 by KJY and CH 2 by Sadhanaji ...both are exceedingly good....

".............unnai enni mul virithu.............................. sirikkavum pazhagikkonden " ......... lots of pain....

Sadhanaji's tamil is little bit funny at certain parts in this song.... Well, that has to be understood.... she,by that time, wud have just started with Tamil-Singing... So , no isssues :)
Nice composition.............


My list is never ending.. Few songs, though may not be a full-fledged sad song, will somehow makes you cry.. !
And If I am to make a list of those songs, then it just goes on and on and on.. !
That list may include ........."Bombay-Theme","Vellai Pookal"[kannathil mutthamittal] etc.........

Other compositions like "uyire uyire"[Bombay] , "udhaya udhaya"[udhaya] , "ennai kanavillaye"[kadhal desam] also come in the same lines....

"Newyork Nagaram" from SOK is another 'thanimai-kodumai' song which,I always say, is a drug... For I am addicted to it right from the day when I heard it for the first time..........

Hey,unless I try and put a full stop to this,it wont be ending..... So, I better put many full-stops together, like

These days are so mundane.. Though it is very very hectic everywhere around me.. College is gonna end very soon..!Precisely..13 days to go for the term to end !!!! Then piles of work pending... ! COMPLETION.....SUBMISSIONS.....VIVAS.....PROJECT......n finally...the THEORY EXAMS.... !!!! Many many things lined up...!!! Miles to go...So, better I dont sleep at all... !

Well, there are other reasons for me to be awake...I, have been an A.R.Rahman fan right from "Roja"..! It gradually grew from 'liking' of music, to a 'fan' of ARR which then very soon grew up to a 'crazy fan'..... n finally it didn't take me long time to make a statement that "ARR is God of music"...!

Its a normal habit of any ARR fan to keep a track of all his concerts,read articles related to that... etc etc. Wherever it happens, whether in America or Dubai or Delhi...if I am not present there to enjoy the show "LIVE", then that goes into my 'MISS' list..!

PS: I have NEVER witnessed an ARR show LIVE till date !!!!!!!! :(( SAD !!!!!!!

Well, recently when I came to know about the April 20th concert in chennai before few days.,I actually didnt react to it. Yet, one thing crawled into my mind...as... 'one more is going to be added to my MISS list'. Cuz it can't be helped for its really IMPOSSIBLE[i hate saying this word]for me to go chennai for a day... precisely just for one music show...! [this is how a normal person will interpret]
C'mon its ARR's concert..... n I m damn sure that another die-hard Rahmaniac will surely understand my feeling of missing YET ANOTHER live show of the Maestro ..!

Two days before I came to know that, anybody who buys a TOI can get a FREE PASS for the showwww !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wut else u need on this earth ??? And that evening, after seeing all those posters in the Internet, and reading all those mails from the fanclub.... I just cudnt control............. !

Why the hell is this happening ??? How many more shows I am gonna miss ?? Also heard today that this show is truly gonna be a ROCKING one... ! Any ARR show will be a rocking show.... undoubtedly... ! But there is gonna be sumthing spl reg this particular show.. ! I guess...!

I feel I am the most unfortunate person on this earth... This reminds me of another friend of mine... Who is also a Rahmaniac..who,very proudly, includes the initials 'A','R','R' in her name [well,tht amazing provision is there in her name...where the hell am i gonna include "ARR" in 'Narayani'] and who is also gonna miss this show... Similar feelings.... !

What more.... I really pray to God.. that... let this be the last entry in my MISS list.. !No more shows should be missed by me... !

A Perfect B'day gift !

For few days... i was attracted by this blogging and stuffs... ideas were pouring like anything.... and unfortunately,the charm just faded away.......! And again... felt like writing sumthing..
Little did i realize that I am gonna get a special thing on my b'day.. ! Also, that day was so spl !!!!!!!!!!!! For a music-freak like me.... when i came to know that I share my b'day with my favourite singer is something like... wowwwwww !!!
n till my last birthday i was unaware of that !! :( n so this one was so spl for me !!! And coming to the interesting thing... G I F T S !!!

Well, u can have hundreds of things beside u but the ONE particular thing...for which u crave for..... u kno... thts the real GIFT that one needs.. That can be a very single thing also..... ! may be... a phone call from a person whom u like a lot .... who has very recently becum very important for u.... a small "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" msg from that person really means a lot to u !!!
I should thank God for giving me that little(BIG) happiness for me on my b'day !! n that too @ 12 o'clock exactly !!!!
okayy !! n always i sayy... the best gift EVER.. will be anything related to non other than A R R :) n i really didnt know that i was gonna get THAT as a gift for my (spl) b'day .. ! for the gift not only had ARR but also... KARTHIKK ( my loveee :D) , SHREYA (happy b'day to u... for i share my b'day with u) n Naresh !!!!
Thank u my dear frnds... for taking so much time for me.... :) n this is not just a gift to me !!!!! its like...... ..... ( certain things r gud when unsaid)
